Hi, I’m Shawn. I’ve lived in Northern Alberta for most of my life, and I own and maintain my own acreage east of Grande Prairie. I know the work a rural property takes because I do it on my own place: the mowing, the clearing, the firewood, the driveway, and the snow.
Little Black Cat Property Maintenance grew out of doing that same work for friends and neighbours. I run the equipment myself, I show up when I say I will, and I treat your property the way I treat mine. If you’ve got a job in mind, get in touch and we’ll figure out the right way to get it done.
One tractor, the right attachments, and one person accountable for the work. These are the jobs I take on most; many clients bundle two or three of them into a single visit while I’m on site with the equipment.
My 72″ flail mower handles tall grass, heavy weeds, and saplings up to 2″ thick: the right tool for reclaiming pasture edges, fence lines, and fields that have gotten away on you.
From taking a tree down to turning it into a winter’s worth of firewood, I handle the full cycle. Stumps can be removed outright, or ground and planed so you can mow right over them.
I grade and level driveways, fill potholes, and spread gravel so spring breakup doesn’t beat up your vehicles. The 72″ rototiller preps plots of any size, and the auger makes fence projects move quickly.
The grapple moves what hands can’t: logs, brush piles, boulders, and debris, piled and stacked where you want them. I also haul up to 14,000 lbs and run local hot shot in the region.
A lot of property jobs stall because nobody has the machine for them. I do. My Kubota MX5800 is a 60 horsepower tractor set up with the attachments rural work actually calls for, and for heavier pushing and grading I run a Caterpillar D3B dozer.
Because the equipment is mine and I operate it myself, there’s no rental hassle and no subcontractor in the middle. While I’m on your property with the tractor, it usually makes sense to knock out more than one job. Tell me everything on your list and I’ll quote it together.

Rural properties need a reset twice a year. Spring cleanup deals with winter’s leftovers: downed branches, debris, matted grass, and garden beds that need rototilling. Fall cleanup puts the property away properly so spring is easier.
When the snow comes, I keep driveways, lanes, and small commercial lots open with snow clearing, along with sand and ice melt spreading so access stays safe through a Peace Region winter.
